Habitat for Humanity -- Fairview Site, Olympia, WA
I
have been involved with Habitat for two years, helping with their site
planning and cottage
designs for the Fairview Cottage Development. The site is a “low
impact” development,
using such technologies as “pervious concrete” and simple
rain gardens. The building footprints are small, contributing to
less pervious area. As many trees as possible were saved and an
extensive native vegetation landscape plan help minimize excessive
groundwater accumulation. To keep crawl space from accumulating
water, Pin
Foundations
are used. The cottages are extremely energy efficient, using LOGIX
ICF (insulated concrete forms) and hydronic radiant floor heating.
